Deeper Depths for Higher Heights

Deeper Depth for Higher Heights Tim Feder

“Exploring the relationship between foundations and calling”
When God takes you to greater heights, you’ll need to deepen your foundations.

Reading: Luke 6 v 47-49
47I will show you what he is like who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice. 48He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. 49But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete."

Have you ever seen a foundations being laid for a house to be built? There are different kinds of foundations depending on the height of the building. In essence two kinds of foundations are common for builders. The first being a shallow foundation: usually for building houses of up to four storeys. The second being a deep foundation: used for buildings with great heights. This foundation is usually half the height deep.
Luke 6:48 says “He is like the man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on rock.”
Jesus refers to people who hears his word and puts them into practice as people who dig down deep to lay their foundations.

1.We are to lay deep foundations.
Why? Because God wants to take you to higher heights! You are meant to stand out like a high building. We are called to be the salt and light to this world. However the higher the building the deeper the foundation. We go deeper in order to go higher. Whatever you are doing life, let your live be the witness to the people around you!

Matthew 7:24: "Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock”

2.We are to lay our foundation on The Rock.
1 Peter 2: 4-8
4As you come to him, the living Stone--rejected by men but chosen by God and precious to him-- 5you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 6For in Scripture it says:
"See, I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone, and the one who trusts in him
will never be put to shame." 7 Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those
who do not believe, "The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone,
8 and, "A stone that causes men to stumble and a rock that makes them fall."

Jesus is our Rock on which we are to build our foundation. He is the cornerstone on which everything is built!
Matthew 21:42 "Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?

The cornerstone definition:
cor•ner•stone
a. A stone at the corner of a building uniting two intersecting walls; a quoin.
b. Such a stone, often inscribed, laid at a ceremony marking the origin of a building.

Jesus united us and God by dying once and for all on the cross for our sins and thereby reconciled us back to God!
Romans 5:10 – 11
10For if, when we were God's enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! 11Not only is this so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.

Jesus is the beginning of all things. He is the ultimate authority of all things in heaven and on earth.
Like the cornerstone is laid during a ceremony, Jesus (The cornerstone) was laid at the ceremony of the cross. There it was inscribed on him, Lord of Lords, King of Kings, Savior, Majesty, Deliverer, Healer of all the mankind!
Ephesians 1: 10
“to be put into effect when the times will have reached their fulfillment to bring all things in heaven and on earth together under one head, even Christ. “

God wants to take you to higher heights. You are all called! You are called to fulfil the great plan of God – that all people will come to Him through His son Jesus Christ. It doesn’t matter where you find yourself, in the marketplace, in the education system, in the entertainment world. Wherever you are you can be part of the plan of God. The word vocation derives from a Latin work which mean “to call”... Many people ask today what my calling is. It is simple, you are called to be a child of God and to let your life be a witness for others so that they can return to their heavenly Father and receive their true identity as children of God.
